Ok Maryland motorists--as if traffic werent already stressful, road work on I-95 is going to be a bear. Read this and prepare--whether you are going into or outo of the city. This just in from MDTA: NEW SPLIT TRAFFIC PATTERN THROUGH WORK ZONE ON SOUTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE CITY WHAT: Four traffic lanes will split around the work zone on southbound I-95 between the Fort McHenry Tunnel and the I-395 on-ramp: one lane to the left and three lanes to the right. MOTORISTS SHOULD KEEP RIGHT IN THE TOLL PLAZA AND TUNNEL TO ACCESS BALTIMORE EXITS. Motorists should use theright lane in the tunnel to access Key Highway (Exit 55) and must use the three right lanes in the tunnel to access I-395 (Exit 53) and MD 295 (Exit 52). Motorists in the left lane can NOT access Baltimore Exits 52-55. Lane changes are not permitted in the tunnel. Motorists should consider the Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695) or the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895) if their destinations are north or south of Baltimore. WHEN: The new southbound I-95 split pattern will take effect on Tuesday, Sept. 16 (starting after 9 p.m.), continuously through mid-October. All dates and times are approximate and dependent on weather. WHY: Toll Dollars At Work. The new traffic patterns are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) two-year, $66 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and the ramps serving I-95 in Baltimore City. Currently, traffic lanes on northbound I-95 split around the work zone between the Caton Ave. on-ramp and north of Exit 52: three lanes to the left and one lane to the right. Motorists in the three left lanes can NOT use Exit 52 (Russell Street), but can access Exits 53 (Northbound I-395) and 55 (Key Highway). KEEP RIGHT TO ACCESS RUSSELL STREET EXIT. The right lane still has access to Exits 53 and 55. Northbound I-95 Exit 54 (Hanover Street) and the on-ramp from Russell Street to northbound I-95 are closed continuously with detours in place. This condition will remain until later this month. To view real-time traffic camera images on MDTA roadways, visit mdta.maryland.gov. Know Before You Go!
