Ok after a couple hours research about pulling some reliable power - TopicsExpress

Ok after a couple hours research about pulling some reliable power out of a 06 G35 6MT w/Uprev motor this is what i have come up with. im going to list the mods in order of cheapest to most expensive. OBX Throttle Body Spacer - $57 This is a very controversy mod that has been around for ages. after reading alot of posts, as well as looking at some dyno charts i have drawn my on conclusion, however they may change after i have installed one myself. at this point, i would conclude that you will see a gain of 5-10 TQ in the low to mid-range, as well as 2-3 HP Stillen Intake w/Z-Tube - $250 Ok this mod seems to be based around the fact that these engines dont do well with a standard CAI, however the G35 does have a slightly restrictive intake, which when replaced with a OEM intake from a 350Z will afford 3-5 hp at around 5700 rpms. its a small gain, and it is possible to find the parts for cheaper then buying from stillen. Now this next set of mods have to be done together on a uprev motor, the reason being the spacer by itself us useless on a 06 without the new lower collector due to redesigns by nissan. MREV2 Lower Collector - $485 On the uprev motors in the 06 G35, nissan fixed the problem with the plenum which in the past had required a spacer to allow better flow, therefor increasing HP. however in fixing this issue they mad another, they made the lower runners shorter, causing more restrictions. the MREV2 again fixs what nissan broke and increase the length of the lower runners.Replacing this part only puts the engine back to how it was before nissan messed with the 03-05 VQ35, and requires the spacer to get the full benefits. this part is not neccesary on the 03-05 models. Motordyne 5/16 iso Thermal Plenum Spacer - $250 As explained above the spacer is a very easy, reliable and realitivly cheap in comparison to other mods. on the 03-05 models and the 06 6MT with the MREV2 lower collector you can expect around 15HP and 18TQ in your midrange. i am not covering exhust due to the massive amounts of knowledge out there already, do a damn catback, get a test pipe or hi flow cats. and get a good header Now after spending all this wonderful money you have a decsion to make. you can either SAFELY run these bolt ons untuned and be content or you can get tuned and unlock MOAR POWER... now there is the age old debate of FlashTuning vs Dyno Tuning... with that said everyone knows how damn expensive dyno tuning can be, and honeslty with so many people having already done these same basic mods, getting a flash tune is really not that bad, now if you install a supercharger, turbo charger, or nitrous then yes dyno tuing is the only way to go, but just bolt ons? save your money and go with a flash programmer. now with that said and after looking around the following is in my optiont he best option. Uprev Osiris + Cipher - $500 now then Cipher is the USB - OBDII cable/software that can be used for datalogging your g35/350z which is a great idea when tuning a car. now then the basic concept here is this. you send these guys a list of all your mods, and they send you a tune. now the cool part about osiris is it doesnt stop there, included in your $500 is 3 retunes. basicly you use the cipher and data log the car after receveing the tune, then you email them the datalogs, they tweek your tune, and presto you have a tune that is custom to your car. did you just add a new bolt on? datalogg, tell them about the added bolt on, and bam your retuned. so up to 3 times you can get your tune remapped, the osiris also allows for multiable tunes, so you can have a race and a street tune. up to 5 on the cruise control equipped cars, so im assuming you use the CC button to change tunes. after the 3 retunes, its only $50 per retune which isnt all the bad. I have not looked into how much power is increased from tuning after these bolt ons, but im willing to bet you will see 15-20 hp increase atleast. hope this helps any of the G35/350Z owners out there.
