Ok, animal behaviorists out there...we have a squirrel that came with our house (actually there is more than one squirrel running around in the trees here). Today I went outside to see a huge collection of green baby pine cones laying on our steps to our car. Emily & I watched the squirrel take them all off the stairs and store them behind some large rocks we have on our hillside. Then when I left and came back later, there were pine cones just falling off the trees, barely missing my head. He was quite busy today. The squirrel was sitting on a low branch about 3 feet from me the first time I noticed all the p.cones on the stairs. That squirrel was chewing me out as I went down the stairs. They are cute here but they have attitudes! What are they doing with pine cones? I havent seen them knock them off trees before. Some sort of storing up for winter? What nutrition does a pine cone have for a squirrel? Possibly an early winter coming?? Ok, very curious.
