Ok back to the animal stories for a moment....This is a picture of our 2 cats we had out in Subic....The large one is Shahrazad Shari.....the small one is Shan Tung Shan they are sitting on our little kitchen table in our quarters up in Cubi...1969. Growing up and moving around the world we never had animals. We got stationed at Pax River NAS in Maryland after Keflavik, Iceland. I was in 8th and 9th grade....Maura was in 6th and 7th grade there. This was before we went to Subic. Anyway...Maura always wanted a cat...Mom said no....somehow a deal was set forth....If Maura got on the honor roll she could have one of our neighbors kittens. So Maura did make the honor roll and we got Shari.....Well it wasnt long before Shari won Mom over heart and soul...She was my mothers 3rd child. Shari would follow Mom around like a dog follows its master. She was Moms baby. We get to the Philippines and Maura gets another cat. A wild jungle kitten. We called her Shan Tung. Shan thought Shari was her mom and they loved each other. The two of them would always try and catch all the lizards that ran around our house. Shan was good at this. Shan weighed 6 pounds and was the toughest most agile animal I had seen. She could jump up to the cabinets in one leap and jump over to an open door ledge and balance herself without any problem. One day Mom has the ladies over to play bridge. They set some tables up in our living room....nice comfortable breeze going on so they open the windows and mom opens up the door...just leaves the screen door closed. All is well until a family of monkeys decides to pay the card playing girls a visit.... The bull monkey comes up the back staircase along the jungle side of the house and proceeds to start banging on the door. The ladies flipped out!! Coffee everywhere.....Shan was sitting on the couch and sees this. She takes off for the bull monkey and sticks all 4 claws into the screen door hanging there hissing....man that monkey took off down that staircase and the whole bunch of them went back in the jungle. Shan was the hero of the day....Ok time to put on the AC units and shut the windows ladies.....
