Ok everyone, this is awesome...the following video is only four minutes long and well worth your viewing. This is an orthopedic surgeon talking about why not everyone will have a deep squat. The guts of his talk come from the images in the background, which come from my teacher, Paul Grilley. The discussion is around anatomical variation; ie. no two bodies are built the same. So why do we seem to think everyone should squat the same depth? Why do we think everyone should have the same amount of power? Why do we think someone has hyperlordosis (too much curve in their back)? We do it all by external appearance, without looking deeper, at the bones. You either have them or you dont. Is your weight training killing you? Getting injured over and over again? Developing problem after problem? Are you being trained like you came from a cookie cutter? Start asking these important questions not only of your trainer, your yoga teacher, but more importantly yourself. I teach my teacher training programs based on anatomical variation and teach my student teachers how to assess what movements are appropriate for their future students and which ones are harmful. This is a skill that will not only keep your students safe, but it will keep you engaged, inspired, and prevent injuries. Please, if you run, work out, practice yoga, martial arts, anything...watch this video, dont dismiss the information, and if you are looking for more info then ask me and I will provide you with it. So watch, listen, and most of all, respect and listen to your body. It knows how its built, nobody else does. Enjoy! https://youtube/watch?v=IxAVJkbTf0M#t=217
