Ok firstly MANY MANY thanks to all who have posted birthday wishes!! Means a lot and I very much appreciate it!! ESPECIALLY today!!! Unfortunately I had to have blood test results today & ive had my teary session AND to those who I sent txt msges too and whove replied back to not stress (yet!! - easier said than done - but I do get it!!!) Heres the latest update...... I had a low WHITE platelet blood count - and after almost 5wks of backwards and forwards with my Dr and the count dropping the news is that we now have to step it up and see the Specialist!!! :( My count only come up 5 - was 74 now 79.... nothing to get excited about.... have to see specialist (via public hospital) cause seriously I dont have the $$ for a couple of visits to a specialist!!!! My Doctor says its ITP ... hes seen 4 cases in his 30yrs of being a Doctor.... :-/ Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare autoimmune disorder.... The person’s blood does not clot properly because the blood-clotting platelets are destroyed by antibodies.... First line of treatment will be Corticosteroids – medications to reduce the activity of the immune system.... THEN - Bone marrow biopsy..... :( Second line of treatment will then depend on bone marrow biopsy results.... BUT 2nd line of treatments.... Splenectomy – surgical removal of the spleen. This operation cures ITP in about 70 per cent of chronic cases Thrombopoietin analogues – treatment to increase production of new platelets in the bone marrow NOW At this stage we dont know if it is ITP - which id be happy to settle with because HEY ITS RARE SO THAT AUTOMATICALLY MAKES ME SPECIAL RIGHT???!!! :-D But seriously we wont know till the painful bone marrow biopsy what exactly it is I have or how it will be treated.....
