Ok, folks I am REALLY trying not to be political, but I found this speech to be VERY out of context. Doris Kearns, who wrote about Lincoln and is a historian, was invited to speak at the kick off for the events at Gettysburg. Sounds logical. Well, her speech was quite out of bounds, covering Johnson, the 1960s, herself and the recent Supreme Court rulings (yeah, I know, creepy!). No matter your political beliefs, this speech was, I found, inappropriate and quite obnoxious. Pushing a political agenda at a major historical event like this is pretty offensive in my book. She could have discussed the rich history of Gettysburg, its implications and lessons learned, but no, she let her ego and personal beliefs overwhelm the events of this week.
