Ok friends, real talk time: 5 points to Cosplay Fame and Who - TopicsExpress

Ok friends, real talk time: 5 points to Cosplay Fame and Who Deserves It This is a hard topic to bring up and I dont like bringing up hard topics here because I get seasick on rocked boats. However! After silently witnessing so many cosplayers beating themselves up over why they dont have likes, why they need me to share 4 share them, people even attacking other cosplayers for being more popular, and even popular cosplayers feeling down about being popular, I HAVE TO SPEAK UP AND USE THIS FACEBOOK SOAPBOX FOR GOOD! LOL...Im not even cosplay famous but moving on for the sake of motivational words! 1. Cosplay fame is an odd creature. Its less about who is deserving, but more luck than anything else. I know cosplayers who rule the masquerade circuit with a million awards to validate their work but yet they have less likes than me. I know cosplayers with less likes who are prettier than me, and I will be the first to tell you Im an average boring potato. I know cosplayers with more likes than me, but sometimes I dont know if theyre more cosplayers or alternative models. Its not my place to judge, nor do I compare. I do my thing, and this page grows on its own. Its good enough. 2. True cosplay fame within the community is indeed something that you can earn. However its not called fame. Its called respect and cred. Producing solid costumes, being a positive force, and continual worship of your craft as an artist are in my opinion, the pillars of this hobby. 3. If you want to be social media famous then thats your business. There are definitely ways to go about it that will make you famous. I wont go into them because its hard to list them without it coming across as me judging those avenues. Whatever makes you happy. This is your happiness here. Not mine. 4. None of us are really entitled to fame. Just because you are a good cosplayer doesnt suddenly mean that cons SHOULD invite you as a guest, why you SHOULD be featured on all the websites, or why you SHOULD have 100k likes. Yes all of these things are good, but it should not be your end goal. It should never even factor into your decision to cosplay in the first place. Want to know what my end goal is? Finish the costume, wear it, and look fabulous. 5. Dont look gift horses in the mouth. Perhaps you are on the upswing and things are looking up for you. Sometimes you stop and feel guilty as to why you are the one blessed with all these opportunities but your friends arent. If they are true friends they will be happy for you. Like I said, none of us deserve it, but at the same time all of us do :) My high school music teacher Mrs. Houghton told me something that has stuck with my ever since in all aspects of life and I will share a paraphrased version with you: You need to be the first to believe in yourself. You need to be the one to give yourself the first vote. In this world it is great to be nice and humble, however there are people out there who want to root for you. You cant ask them to believe in you if you dont first believe in yourself.
