Ok, here is the update: I finally heard from Lexington Oncology on Friday. I am meeting with the doctor on Wednesday for an initial consultation and to schedule the PET scan. From there we will discuss a treatment plan. What is killing me(literally and figuratively) is that these delays wouldnt be happening if Nikki Halley wasnt playing politics with the lives of the people of SC. Republicans are so desperate to make the President fail that our governor refused the medicaid expansion to try and turn people against the Affordable Care Act. They want these people to think that Obamacare forgot about them. But the President didnt. He provided for them and their GOP state officials blocked him. I qualified for Medicaid under the Federal guidelines prior to getting cancer. Because of my type and location of cancer I now qualify for Medicaid and SSDI but like all SSDI recipients I must wait 24-months to recieve Medicaid. I dont have that long to wait. I have been told repeatedly that if I had Medicaid this wouldnt be taking so long. I should have had it already. If this cancer spreads to my lungs while I am waiting for care it becomes untreatable. I will die from it. As it stands now I have a less than 50% chance of surviving and it isnt getting any better. Time is of the essence. Each year over 500 people die in this state from curable illnesses. I looked it up. They die because they lack the access to health care. Maybe that doesnt seem like a lot to you, but to me if we, as a society, let even one person die we could have helped but didnt because of money then we have to question just how civilized we are. If you had the ability to save those people, wouldnt you? If you said yes then you are a better person than the governor of this state. To return her to office is to be complicit in the murder of over 2000 of your fellow South Carolinians over the next four years. It may be too late for me, but with your vote you can insure that this heartless, political puppet doesnt kill anyone else.
