Ok, here it goes... I was right, in being really concerned about the redness on Glens belly. If the vet hadnt given him penicillin on Saturday, he wouldnt have made it to today. The only way to check Glen, was to approve sedation. With Glens condition being so poor, and no way of knowing why, I had to risk the sedation- without it, no one could get close enough to help him. The three of us cornered him with boards, directing him to an area with good light in order to start his IV. It took all of our strength, to hold him while a catheter was inserted in his ear. It took 3 tries, and eventually it was in- although, Glens skin is extremely tough, and the catheter needed to be held in place throughout. It took two syringes to sedate him. He received IV fluids, which I imagine will help him immensely. He received a hoof trim- I cant stress enough how necessary this was. His tusks were removed- all of this under sedation, of course. Glens best chance at a good life here depends on his aggression letting up. I cant have him hurting the other animals here. For all of you who thought that his mouth might be sore, yes- it was. His tusks were a mess. I then approved his neuter. There is no way that a boar can blend into an atmosphere with other pigs with his testosterone dictating his every move. He will feel much calmer, now. He is constipated, and is on a soft diet with bran. He is grossly obese. He will need to exercise and be given a proper diet. He was given more antibiotics. His belly has started to clear, and he should heal well from todays surgery. Hes a miracle. This boy survived a severe infection, a vicious dog attack, being shot, dehydration, eye infection, gut issues... After we were done, I rubbed him down with oil. His skin is extremely scaly and raw. We tucked him under a mountain of straw, heat lamp above, water nearby. Its time to start healing.
