Ok, it has been a year since Toms successful prostate removal for cancer. A cancer that was detected only by his PSA level being elevated. PSA testing is thru a simple blood test. A test that the AMA says is not necessary. That most men will eventually have prostate issues but that the cancer is so slow developing that the tests raise more false alarm than actual prediction of cancer. Arggggggggggh! ALL men should have a baseline test by 45! If Tom took this advise and did not ask for the test then the cancer we caught right at the margins would have spread outside the prostate and we could be without him within 10 years. I actually had someone say that removal caused disfunction and they would rather live with cancer for a shorter time than have the disfunction for life! How absolutely selfish! Tom is like the poster child. The blood test saved his life and he has no side effects. If you love the men in your life, encourage them to have a baseline PSA by 45, especially if there is any type of cancer in their family. We want them to be healthy and with us!
