Ok, late night rant. My old ma was a cop. I went on a ride a long with him when I was 14, in 1973. We were just cruising along in the very casual town of Arcadia when he pulled over a car for expired registration and after walking up and speaking to the driver, he (the driver) got out of his car and before my dad could even react, this guy punched my dad in the head. I sat there in the passenger seat and watched the whole thing unfold. They got into a fist fight and at some point, my dad pulled out his billy club and got this guy into some sort of hold where he was able to use his radio for back up. Eventually a couple of other cars showed up and they got this guy in hand cuffs. It had a huge impact on my life! My dad really just tried to preserve and protect the people of that city and I saw first hand how dangerous his job was. Had it not been for his toughness (my dad was a bad ass) or for the split second decisions that he made that day, someone could have died. I remember sitting in that car watching it all unfold and thinking, shoot him, shoot him This guy was punching my dad! and he would have been justified in my opinion, because this guy would have, In my opinion, grabbed my dads gun, if he had a chance and killed him, and maybe me, because I was a witness. But I often think, what if that guy were an African American, would my dad have reacted in a different way? I can honestly say NO. But that racial issue cast aside, put your self in my dads place. He pulls a guy over for a simple registration violation and he gets attacked! If that happened now and the perp were of African American decent, would it make the news? YOU KNOW it would! and that is messed up! People, take responsibility for your actions! stop trying to blame others for what you or your friends, family, neighbors or race do! Are there bad cops? YES, are there bad people in your hood?...............................................Really?
