Ok not to be racist but theres an article about a kid from Ghana - TopicsExpress

Ok not to be racist but theres an article about a kid from Ghana who made all the ivy league schools, I mean congrats on such a great feat but comeon did it really need to be in the news? I know a couple of Asian kids who did that but that didnt make the news. Was it newsworthy because he was from Ghana(black)? We all know that asian kids have it even harder when applying for colleges. I remember that when I was applying for colleges they said that the percentage of Asians accepted was less because it was too competitive. And I believe there was a recent article in the news about how Stuyvesant admissions exam was biased because less minorites (blacks/spanish) were accepted. Whose fault is that? Its not on race, but on the family. Im pretty sure that most if not all of my friends had their parents sacrifice alot so that we were given an education and that we had to study hard. Hell I dont even think we had option of not studying or not doing well in school. I remember getting beat if I didnt come home with as or 100s. I distinctly remember in elementary school my parents didnt believe that we couldnt get 100s on the stupid standardized city tests and that a 99 was the highest you could get. And my sister and I got hit and at parent teacher conference the teacher had to tell my mom and dad that there was no such thing as 100 and that the 99 was the highest score they could give. And my parents thought my teachers were covering for me. And for other minority parents that say oh we have to work and no one has time thats bullshit. I grew up in a sweat shop and my parents worked 20hr days and I remember sleeping in clothing baskets and waking up at 3am to go home and get up at 8 to go back to school. Everyone has the potential to do well in school. It all depends on the person. I dont think that someone should be lauded for doing well in school. You get what you put in. As a child your only job is school. And its not that hard. So why arent there newspaper articles about asian kids doing super well in school? If anything asians have the toughest glass ceilings for them to try and break through. Wheres the applause for the asians? Dont play the race game because nothing was given to us either. We had to work hard if not harder. There are programs out there specifically for other races to help them get into great colleges. And not many asians are allowed into those programs either. So I call bullshit. I congratulate that kid for doing what he was supposed to do and may he have a great future but I applaud all the students that do well and sacrifice themselves for their higher education. Heres your notable fb mention because I dont work at a newspaper and thats the best I can do.
