Ok... sitting here... thinking... (its an occupational hazard)... And really... regardless of your political leanings, there are really only a few things we need to do to fix our government: 1) Reverse Citizens United. People are people and that is it. Corporations are a business structure. 2) Get rid of the Electoral College. Seriously? Do we even need to talk about this? This came from the idea that only rich land owners were smart enough to elect the president. 3) Get money completely out of politics. Give each candidate with enough signatures to run the same amount of money to fund their candidacy from a pool. Maybe then ideas will become more important than spending power. (BTW: England does this... you know... the country we thought was too old school for us? Also, their campaign period is 3 weeks, not 2 years+) 4) Get rid of Gerrymandering. Completely. Seriously... we have computers that run our traffic signals. Cant we figure this out? Watch this, for a great explanation: https://youtube/watch?v=Mky11UJb9AY Another thing: DEMOCRACY does NOT equal TRUTH or RIGHT. As a friend of mine, who comes from a country where things are not as evolved as they are here pointed out to me, the thing that makes the US great is not the concept of Majority Rules. It is the idea that we choose to protect the minority from the prejudices of the majority. That is the core of the idea of Freedom of Speech. If we chose to practice true democracy, then all peoples freedoms would be at the whim of the majority opinion at any give time. Instead, we choose at all times to champion the cause of those who dont have the power to speak for themselves. Shame on those who choose to use the idea of democracy to restrict the rights of those who are different than them but dont have enough votes to compete (you know who you are... I hope). OK... I am done for now... Love you all!!!
