Ok so Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of the Christian Action - TopicsExpress

Ok so Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of the Christian Action Faith Ministries has stirred up a major controversy by asserting that women need to be married to be “validated”. I think the Papa’s main problem is that he did not put his statement in a proper context. There are people in Ghana, including women, who think that a woman’s major achievement in life is to get married and be called a Mrs. Somebody and such women can “worry” God with all sorts of prayers and wake up their pastors, including the Papa, at odd hours to request prayers to enable them meet their “missing rib”. To such people, Duncan-Williams is right. You can’t disturb the Papa’s sleep with your marriage prayer requests and then turn around to put on an attitude and flout his teachings on validation. But if as a woman you recognize that your purpose in life is more than marriage – eg to help find a cure for Ebola or serve God in the best possible you can like Mary Magdalene and other women like her did in the Bible, then you don’t need a man to be validated. In fact in such cases a man might even be a distraction. So please don’t work yourself up over the Papa’s sermon. As for the Papa, he knows his congregation (and his target audience) and he knows what the dominant prayer request is and that may have informed his line of argument. All I can say is this: when in doubt, read your Bible. The confusion is, I think, coming from those women who when single would insist that they have no need of a man but the day they get married they want everybody to know how excited, accomplished and validated they are and then they begin looking at their single friends “some way”. As for his assertion that the female-to-male ratio is 7:1, that is factually inaccurate; the percentage of females in Ghana is 50.7%, which works out to a male-female ratio of about 1:1.03. If you eliminate the very ugly ones and the very lazy ones, the ratio comes to about 1:1. So relax, we are all safe!
