Ok, so I know Im an old banger and who gives a shit and all that, but I do actually think that there is always room for hope and that it is possible to build something decent out of it. Its just a pity that the political class is fatally unable and unwilling to entertain that possibility. Lets think about this. The Focus E15 Mothers get out there with a slogan that people all over can relate to: Housing for All. Thousands cheer them on, messages of support flood in, people from all over respond in a positive way. I dont want to get overly romantic and all middle-class Yay The Workers and Yah The World Is Saved on you here, but I think its fair to say that theres at least a bit of evidence there that a lot of people like to hear about resistance and something constructive. Meanwhile, weve got Labour who wake us all up this morning with something along the lines of we agree that everyone needs an outlet for the frustrations built up on the back of shit wages and a housing crisis that we never addressed. Vote for us and well join the rush to take it out on some Romanians. Or words to that effect. Thats certainly the sort of message Ive taken away from it all. I suppose I could do myself a favour and just stop reading the papers and not keep waking up to all this vicious, dangerous and negative crap. Not entirely sure that would solve the problem, though. And I do think there are serious problems to be solved. Im really not liking what Im seeing on the horizon.
