Ok, so I was just asked what I thought was the main problem with the Carolina music market from a HH & RB perceptive. As I thought about the answer to this question I came up with a few things one stood out to me the the most and that one thing has an effect on all the others. There are not or very very few current financial success stories in the market in urban music! As simple as that sounds, it is very powerful and profound and to make it worse people follow people who seem successful. Hence, the market has not idea what successful is or how to create, develop and or cultivate said success. Think about it? The last truly and fully successful artist from the market was Petey and that was a long time. Some of you may say J Cole but Cole is not really from the market, not in the same fashion that Petey is. Cole was here but for Bragg, probably not! R&B if we take out idol which does not count because that has nothing to do with being from the market the last artist was Ant Ham / Sunshine again a long time ago. Its just like a kid needs examples to grow and learn so do people in the industry. If you look to GA, how much different are the artist really. Look at how many girl groups come out of the market, look at how many solo female artist, look at how many male solo r and b artist all and r and b cycle starting all the way back with Babyface. Look at how many TI and Jeezy, Look the Shawty Lo and Gucci, Scrappy to Waka, Andre 3000 to Bob, not saying anyone is copying anyone but its a cycle and a lot of times by the same or similar body of producers. And Carolina if you are going to follow someone or allow someone to mentor you make sure its someone successful at what they do!
