Ok, so I wasnt so useless today! As you know our new Metropolis HQ is located next to a railroad station. We have a back alley/door that goes out to an old abandoned area that butts up next to the old railroad tracks...literally. A few weeks ago I opened the door and wandered out to find that there is a homeless man living in our area where we would normally accept railroad merchandise if we still lived in the stone ages! He wasnt there when I discovered this, but I saw he kept his area extremely clean! Everything was swept and all of his belongings folded up nicely. When I brought this up to the other tenants they all knew about him and said he was harmless. This man has been on my mind ever since. I couldnt stop thinking about him. Jim and I discussed it and today I brought to work a thick pad and a sleeping bag that would handle temperatures of 0 degrees... I opened the door on the back alley and there he was sleeping at 8:00am this morning on the cold concrete outside in a thin red blanket wrapped around his body....I said, hello, and he jumped up...he said, Im only here for another week or so.... I told him, I dont care how long you are here, I just want you to be safe and warm....and if it get too cold please promise me youll go to a homeless shelter so I dont have to find a dead body....he laughed at that...Im guessing he has more experience than I do with this subject. We didnt exchange many words, but could tell that he was excited to receive this heavy sleeping bag and pad. God, I pray to keep him safe and sound and that you will show him the way to your grace!
