Ok, so Ive been away from an organ console for 4 weeks. Today was the first substantial time spent practicing since my summer break. Not being Bill Stein or John Cargile (who can play anything in any key, from memory), I need to get my unworthy self back into whatever shape I was in before taking a break. Sightreading! Thatll do it. I picked up the collection of Rheinberger Ten Trios, Opus 49. Honestly, this is not absolute reading at sight, as I looked at most of these about 10 years ago. Still, theyre good for getting all four limbs back into the same key. No. 1, g minor, not bad. No. 2. C Major, not bad. so far so good. No. 3 a minor - played this one for one of the AGO exams years ago, so it came back quickly enough. No. 4 D-flat major, not so bad, but not up to tempo. No. 5 G-SHARP MINOR????? Honestly, dude.... Next week, the rest. For now, I need a drink.
