Ok, so, Ive been here in Japan sense Tuesday (5 days), and so far, Ive learned a lot culturally. A lot of Americans will not like what I have to say, but honestly, we as a culture can learn so much from the Japanese. First off, there is very minimal crime, there is a lot of dedication to culture, family, and values. You take your shoes off when youre entering an establishment and when asked to. If you attempt to learn their language, they will work extra hard to make sure youre taking care of. And best of all, the dont care attitude is basically non-existent. The train tracks, gutters, and roads, along with everywhere else in this heavily populous city is incredibly clean. There is not a lot of debris just floating around, there is no littering around. Everyone takes their bottles, cans and other trash and takes the time to place them into specific trash cans around the city. The buildings are well maintained, there is no graffiti on buildings, and everyone bows regardless if you are a foreigner or not. It is said that if you leave your wallet sitting on the train, with money and credit cards sticking out, and when the train returns, your wallet will be untouched, your money still there, and credit cards accounted for. Im actually going to be a little sad to leave. The culture actually has changed me a little bit...it, in a manor, showed me what its like to care. The respect here is unbelievable. You bow to people, and they bow back, as a sign of respect. Cashiers actually want your business, and will bow to each customer, and when you offer your seat to a girl on the train, they will bow to you to express their thank you. Today, I went with a friend to get a massage, upon entering the office, we were greeted and taken care of. At the end, both of our caretakers ushered us to the elevator to see us down, and gave us very profound bows and thanks for our business. Can anyone imagine what business would be like in America if we adopted some of these cultures and customs? I am very thankful for the Air Force and the MNANG to provide me this incredible opportunity. I traveled with a great group of folks in LRS, and Ive had a blast so far. Heres to St. Pattys Day tomorrow and to the rest of the week! May God give you... For every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile, For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, A faithful friend to share, For every sigh, a sweet song, And an answer for each prayer. Have a Happy St. Pattys Day!
