Ok so Ive just lisened to Eoghan Donegans album by the water and Im going to review it but first Im going to give you some background . The album was made entirely from scratch by eoghan donegan (I believe some others may have made minor contributions , but this is basically a bedroom album Written ,preformed, edited and produced by one man .(including the many backing vocals) A working mans tubular bells I am proud to count Eoghan Donegan as a close personal friend . I know him to be mature and enlightened in his world perspective and this is reflected in his music. It has a etheral vibe . Its mellow and relaxing but not depressing,boring or pretentious. Kinda like a mix of paul mcartney and jeff buckley or something. Dam fine songwriting. Its unique and original. Eoghan has the rarest and most wonderful of things many very successful musicians dont have. His own sound. Overall a good album but It isnt a mindblower. It does have moments of sheer brilliance like the Japanese chorus of yesterday, tomorrow or the call and response section of how madness is made .The production value is great. Fantastic use of panning, volume swells etc. Great job creating such a full sound using just guitars and vocals. (In some ways it reminds me of the beach boys pet sounds) Some very cool un-guitaristic sounds are created . The album has a very clear album feel/vibe that is to say that it feels like a whole piece not a collection of unrelated songs. I cant say anything negative about this album. All I can add is that this is a great album made with very basic tools and I cant help but wonder what could be achieved additional instruments,voices etc. Eoghan has a great musical imagination , a great command or language and philosophy and his instruments (guitar and vocals) Well done lad. Be proud this is an amazing piece of work . By a 17 year old I might add. Bob Dylan was 21 before he made the freewheeling bob dylan Or was it 20? (another brilliant 1 man debut album I might add) I look forward to your future recordings. I think your best work is ahead of you and I hope to collaborate . but hey , heres the link.
