Ok, so a few days ago I created post about the Open. In response, there were positive and negative feedback (expected and understandable). Out of this banter came a comment/question regarding my stance on burpees. Basically, I am a believer that if an athlete/indiv doesnt have the strength to do a movement, we are not going to ask them to do it a speed, stressed or under load. I understand that in the world of CF, a burpee is basic (for some), but, does that mean that we treat it differently than any other movement? Coach Sepi made a great point today, you wouldnt squat on your toes, why is landing in burpee on your toes acceptable. So, this just got me thinking and wanted to hear from others, what do you think? Burpee, is it different than any other movement? Is there a proper way to do it? Does form matter or just get them done? (now, I have my answer, yes, there is a proper form, biomechanically, efficiently, etc and SPC will continue to scale, yes, scale burpees if we see a fault) But, again, I am interested to hear from the masses. Side note, this topic got me thinking about the idea of ABS. For some reason people think that it is okay to do 500 abs a day, but squat each day, oh no, that is bad. I teach AP, since when did the abdominal muscle have this wonder capacity? When did they become a muscle that doesnt follow any of the normal physiological principles? (just a side thought)
