Ok, so everyone pretty much knows that Malazan is essentially unfilmable, but if it was, who would be some of your casting choices? For the sake of posting, assume that a Malazan film/series/whatever would manage to be good and include any character you want, and that it would get all the funding it deserves so no actor is out of the question. Hell, lets include dead actors while were at it, if theyre relevant. Inspired by the Omar Sy thread. Here are a few of mine: Dassem Ultor: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Like I said in another post, I always imagined Dassem (and Dal Honese in general) as more African than African American. I see a lot of people who immediately think of Samuel L Jackson for Dassem, and I think that fits Dassems badassery, but take a look at this guy for a moment. Best known as Mr. Eko in Lost and Adebisi in Oz, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje definitely has the acting chops to pull off the full gamet of Dassems emotion and presence. He can be the vicious badass, but he can also be contemplative, mystical, and sorrowful. This guy definitely has the chops and the feel of Dassem (he would just need long hair). Kallor: Bill Nighy I honestly cant even picture anyone else fitting Kallor so perfectly (maybe a skinnier and alive Lawrence Tierney). Many of his roles have him already playing Kallor, that smug superiority and cynical sarcasm. He also already has the look down. Whiskeyjack: Michael Madsen This one might be a controversial pick, but its almost unavoidable for me. I could see a lot of actors pulling off a great Whiskeyjack, but I somehow always read Whiskeyjacks lines with Madsens gruffness. A few of his roles also show that he can play the grizzled veteran with a heart of gold. I could also see Michael Madsen for Gruntle. I think wherever he goes, hes a very Malazan friendly actor. Quick Ben: Peter Mensah I know in the other thread he was also a pick for Baudin, but I think he fits Quick Ben much more. For one he has more of the look, tall and lanky more than stocky. Also I think he can carry a perfect blend of exotic mysticism, military gruffness, and arrogance. Gesler: Ray Stevenson I totally see Gesler as a Titus Pullo type of soldier and I think their personalities match pretty well. His role in Rome also shows him very capable of developing good chemistry with a counterpart character. Too bad I cant think of a good Stormy. Karos Invictad: John Hannah After his role as Batiatus in Spartacus, I thought he would be perfect in this role. A good manipulative villain who thinks way too highly of himself, not to mention a character who displays rage and frustration towards everyone around him. Errastas: Nick E. Tarabay Another one from Spartacus, I think his role as Ashur fits the Errant perfectly. He can appear unassuming and subtle without coming across as overtly sneaky, but he is really a walking sack of spite and malice. This guy played that role brilliantly with all the nuance required for Errastas. Kruppe: Danny DeVito No, Im totally joking on this one. Seriously, who can do justice to Kruppe? Thats all for now. Let me know some of your own, or thoughts on mine!
