Ok, so, having had my blood checked in August & again about a week ago. I was told my Iron store levels are low so, Ive was advised, since Im Vegan, I should add iron supplements... I dont feel its an issue personally but wanted to do a little more research to figure out what I could do. I came across this interesting tidbit: As for #2, it’s important to note that while vegetarians have lower stores of iron than omnivores, they do not have higher rates of anemia. In the research, many vegetarians’ stores are “low-normal,” but this does not mean less than ideal! Actually, there’s some evidence that says low-normal iron stores are beneficial: improved insulin function and lower rates of heart disease and cancer.
