Ok so here is my funny/touching long post of the day, for reasons I prefer to keep personal, I have been looking at other parishes/churches lately to attend Sunday services. Today I chose to attend the noon service at St. Brendans on Y-Towns west side. The beautiful thing about the Diocese website is that it didnt mention the entire service is in Spanish. How do I explain my Spanish, oh heres how, I have no Spanish lol So as I sat there, uncomfortable because of the language issue, I could have bailed, but I thought to myself you brought me here for a reason God. I was able to follow the service and read the readings in English in Breaking Bread, sadly I didnt understand the Padres Homily, you just sit there and think, its all gonna be over soon (now I know how Rory feels lol). When the Our Father came I just stayed in the back of the church and held my hands out and said it in English to myself. One thing I found really beautiful was the families, mothers and fathers, grandparents, they all did peace be with you to everyone, the children went on the alter and gave peace to the priest, families shook hands with the band and one another, there was a feeling they were all one family :-) I stood there in the back , alone, still afraid of the language barrier, of all the people there no one turned around to wave, perhaps I made them as uncomfortable, then a beautiful little girl, maybe nine in a lavender dress with a purple bow walked all the way back to me and shook my hand :-) This was the lesson, this was why I was there, to remind me the beauty in this world is in the innocence of a child. It is all of our jobs, responsibilities to protect the children of the world, they know no evil , no hate, until we teach them that :-) When Mass was over , Sister Norma Raupple came up and asked me if I spoke Spanish, I laughed and responded no, and explained I didnt realize the noon mass was Spanish, she then asked about my math abilities, I joked they were almost as bad as my Spanish, she asked if I could tutor some of the children in math, no matter how bad my math was, these children were far behind and could use help. I asked what day, she said Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30. Work really prevents me from being able to do this, but maybe one of you, perhaps someone off on Wednesdays or retired could consider donating some time to helping these children with math, perhaps one of you will read this and finish this story :-) Anyone interested can contact Sister Norma at the Parish at 330-792-3875 :-)
