Ok.. so last night at work a lady comes in Ive seen a couple times and I can see she is very sad. She buys our biggest bottle of wine and a pack of smokes. As Im ringing her up, I ask if she is ok? She said Not really.. Im very upset because I just had to put my Mother in a nursing home today..right before Christmas! After talking with her about this & trying to make her feel better about the situation..after finding out some details about this ladys Mother.. and getting her to see that she is only doing whats BEST for her Mother..also the fact that her Mother (in this ladys words) doesnt even know her zip code anymore.. I told her that she should realize her Mother is in the best possible place for the care she requires and even though this is true.. the REAL sadness lies within her own heart and what she feels she has lost with her Mom. So I told her that she COULD do something about that...to get through Christmas. Instead of being SAD her Mom would not be with her on THIS Christmas, she could fill her void with stories of the past, of JOY & incorporate her Mom in every way possible. That her Mom would very much want that! So yeah.. I had to whip out a Nikki story to show her what I meant. When I was finished she had tears rolling down her cheeks and gave me a big hug thanking me. What she said next.. FLOORED me! She said, Well, what a coincidence, not ONLY have you helped me see how I can feel better about my Mother.. You also made me see how much I STILL have to enjoy in my life & this Christmas! You see.. I have a daughter who will be 22 her next birthday...and her name is Nikki!
