Ok, so the Middle Ages were not as dark as some say; indeed, they were prodigious in their output and contribution to culture. Funny, I learned this from my Protestant church historian well over 20 years ago. Now if the lesson to be learned is those Tudors were greedy, and they leveraged Henry VIII for that greed, what do we make of those who would sell forgiveness of temporal punishment by way of indulgences, and leverage the guilt and desire for loved ones, so that beautiful buildings could be built in Rome? Or is Tetzel now too involved in yet another rewrite of history? I mean if one is evil, certainly the other, no? I dont want to sound like Im against good history, nor do I want to keep vindication from my Catholic brothers and sisters, but perhaps the lesson to be learned is we need to strive for accuracy in history and speak out against all abuse of religion, and the Middle Ages is but ONE example?
