Ok so there is a big uproar about the value of bitcoins dropping from $900 to $540. This drop was bound to happen as yesterday almost every hour it went up $200. As for it being an arbitrary number, so is all stocks, you dont actually have that money till you cash out. All bitcoins are are stocks that are earned in exchange for processing power & can be traded as currency. The value of the American $ isnt based on anything other than how much the mints/prints can produce.
