Ok so this was really hard... memory not so good no more :) But after being nominated, i suppose i have to list the 10 djs that have had the most influence over me in my life. So here goes... Frankie Knuckles - For being one of the driving reasons why i get to play the music i do. While there where many djs before him, Frankie was the most infuentual to me. He is house music to me. Sasha / John Digweed - My whole djing style was moulded from listening and watching Sasha & Digweed for hours and hours on end when i was first starting out. The Northern Exposure cd is still one of my favourite mixes of all time. There ability to layer and build a set was such an infuence on me when i was in my early years of djing. And while Sasha is probably not as much an infuence on me anymore, i still regard Digweed as one of my idols and one of the best djs in the world. The way he just locks into a groove and builds... perfect. Jody Wisternoff - My good friend Jody, very few people have had more of a musical infuence on me than him, and his help over the years has been priceless. His ability to sort through and find those rare gem records in a sea of releases never ceases to amaze me. Just has a knack of finding beautiful music. Carl Cox - While i am not a big fan of Carls direction these days, i do remember the early days of Carl well. His banging techno set at Big Black Cox on three decks at DCs when i was resident there was a site to behold. While he may not of been the most forward thinking dj, his energy and vibe behind the console was infectious. When he was rocking away in the console, the whole club was feeling it. He made me realise that there really is a performance aspect to djing, and that it was more than just puting a few records together. Stacey Pullen - Stacey is one of the finest djs i have ever had the chance to see or work with. I have watched him play at least 10 times, he has never ceased to amaze me. His abilty to flow between styles and keep the crowd interested in just flawless. There has never been a time where he has played 4hrs or more where i havent thought, wow it is over already. There are very few djs that i could say that about. He really made me re-think about not limiting myself to one genre in my set. James Zabiela - While i have witnessed a lot of djs use technology, very few have used it in such an entertaining way. James opened my eyes to a way of integrating technology into your set, and actually have it add to your performance, instead of removing you from the crowd. Anthony Pappa - My friend Anthony, loose mo fo, but damn the boy can mix. There is nobody technical better, he is like a metronome. I have spent hours with him, just watching and learning. Mr Whippy aka Jeremy Junk - Jeremy was someone i had so much respect for. He did more for the scene that i love than anyone i know. His events inspired me more and more to keep doing what i loved. He gave local djs the chance to play with some of the biggest names in the world at the time. Made me love what i do even more. Deleriums demise in many ways drove me to startup Habitat. Habitat Dj Team - I couldnt single out any one dj, as almost all of the djs i have had the pleasure of working with over the past 10 years with Habitat have inspired me more than anyone else. The chance to perform, develop and learn off such a amazing and close group of poeple has been priceless. It has driven me to constantly want to improve, to spend longer searching for those gem tunes, and to always bring my a-game. I now love djing more than i ever have thanks to them. Im sure there was a lot more people that have influenced me over the years too... good & bad :) I nominate Darren Jones & Richard Lee to list their top 10 dj influences in their life.
