Ok this is bugging me. There is a news story out today about the police chief in Chickasha resigning over a Facebook posting that contained a racial slur. m.newsok/chickasha-police-chief-resigns-over-facebook-post/article/5334280 I know I dont want anyone that is anything less than scrupulously fair in law enforcement so I was interested in the details if this story and went looking to find out a little more detail what it more about what it is that he actually did. Here is what I have found. The link he posted is to an 18 second film clip that includes a humorous exchange between a customer and a barista at Starbucks. Nothing remotely racist in the clip however, the title chosen for the clip by whoever posted it on YouTube contains slang. I say slang because it was used as slang and not as a slur. The offending word in this title is nigga I hear it often and it always makes me uncomfortable. By the same token, whenever I hear this word, its being used as slang not a slur. Still makes me uncomfortable. Here is a link to the video clip posted by the man. youtu.be/ZOZfluMZjX4 There is nothing I can find to indicate the man had any ill intent whatsoever. He says that he was simply sharing the clip and didnt notice the title. I can recall, on more than one occasion, posting something on my page inadvertently that had something offensive in it that I missed and then scrambling to delete it so I can imagine this being an innocent mistake. Either way, its not quite the same as posting a racial slur I dont know this man but whatever is going on here it isnt about the video. What I do know is that Mr. Adamsons reputation is being destroyed over this. I am posting a pic of the tweet from Mr. Adamsons Twitter feed where he also posted the link probably identical to his Facebook posting so that you can get a sense of context. So what exactly is going on here?
