Ok well my first foray into the world of cake baking didnt go terribly well. Mistake no1 was asuming that a swiss roll tin was a tin shaped like a swiss roll!.... It wasnt. Still, not to be deterred, i used a baking tray instead. Mistake no2 was after carefully preparing the sponge and baking it for twenty minutes I realised that id forgotten to add any self raising flour. And as you can see by the first photo it didnt look particularly appetising so I threw it away and started again. Then came mistake no3. After finally getting everything right on the base it dawned on me while i was preparing the filling for my Raspberry and chocolate swiss roll that id also forgotten to buy any raspberries FFS! So faced with a drive to glossop in the rush hour i did what any chef worth their salt would do and used some raspberry jam instead. Alas, I was so excited to fill the roll by now that i didnt really whip the cream properly and it kind of dribbled all over the work surface rather than on the roll itself. Meaning that by the time id finished, rather than a delicious Rosiebakesit Swiss roll I ended up with what can only be described as an anorexic jam rolly poly. Unfortunately it seems my culinary skills can only be matched by my Mr Bean DIY skills :/ Tasted quite nice though :D
