Okaaaaaaay..... Rescue back up....... please let me explain! Rescue back up means that any dog that comes through the Safe Rescue system has life long support from us. It means that if people have problems with their safe rescue dog they can call us and we will advise to the best of our ability. If all advise fails and still the home is not working out or if situations change and the dog can no longer be kept we will take the dog back within a reasonable time frame (all rescues are full up most of the time... an empty space means a dog somewhere died unnecessarily) In extreme emergencies we will use kennels as rescue back up but this is not something we can afford to do lightly and not the way we choose for our dogs to be cared for. Adopters are told upon adoption that if the home does not work out they will be expected to return the dog to us them selves as we do not have the manpower to go and collect them. What rescue back up is NOT is a convenient means for adopters to get rid of a dog when it is really no longer convenient. When the PUPPY they adopted is over a year old and jumps up and scratches because they failed to train it I do not take kindly to people trying to emotionally blackmail me into taking a dog into my house when overcrowding could mean that dog gets hurt due to fights breaking out. I REALLY do not sympathise with someone telling me the dog must be gone immediately because I Do not appreciate how hard it is for them to look after that dog now that they know it is leaving when the reason for the dog leaving is something most of our adopters would quite easily work through. Having only asked these people to wait just a few days... not weeks like some of the bigger rescues often do.....I do not appreciate them telling me that they still have stuff to do for Christmas so need the dog gone.... what about MY PIFFING CHRISTMAS!! What about the fact that having rehomed three dogs to get down to the number I wanted over Christmas I now have to take the dog they commited to a year ago because they have given up on her. I stand by rescue back up.....this is my job and I respect that but mountain moving is not my forte and really people should try and meet me a little half way.
