Okay - tell us the story of how you came to be employed at PacTel, PacBell - or whatever we were called at the time. Heres mine. Enlisted in USMC. Wisely - in boot camp (Dago), answered all the questions on aptitude test as though I favored electricity over shooting guns, driving tanks, etc., etc. Was told I was a natural for electronics and got sent (after Pendleton) to Marine Aviation Electronics. Received lots of military electronics training. Four years later, was discharged at Treasure Island. Briefly returned home to Seattle - nothing really happening there except Boeing and they were in a terrible slump. (Billboard sign: Will the last one leaving Seattle please turn out the lights?) Returned to Bay Area. Someone said - Hey, try the Telephone Company. Youll never get rich there, but youll always have a good job. Went to the employment office in Oakland (at that time it was part of the 1587 property). Got hired and became a Tollie in the wonderful world of Telegraphy. Was surprised that I wasnt climbing poles as thats what I thought all Telco employees did. Very glad of the choices I made. Well - except maybe for once or twice when on liberty in the Orient. But thats another story for another time. :)
