Okay Haze/family update. Kelly Hughes has unpacked her, Roxie - TopicsExpress

Okay Haze/family update. Kelly Hughes has unpacked her, Roxie Gerl s and Bella Gerl s suitcases. Okay - really she has unpacked mine and Haze;s even though we are still sleeping with the chickens...... Haze went to the vet - had surgery. Her entire upper right canine was ripped out of her jaw. Dr. Brady removed the tooth by cutting it out of the gum that was holding it in. He had to slice the gum about 2 inches to fold over a flap to seal the hole in Hazes gum line. He also packed the hole form the tooth with over 8 packing blocks. I watched the whole surgery. Kelly had to leave in tears about half way through. She loves Haze and is so conflicted and hurt. Haze went for a follow up and is healing rapidly - The vet was amazed but expected quick recovery as dogs mouths heal quite rapidly from trauma. They do bleed a lot too. Roxie is healing as well. She is still very emotionally drained but we have had her int he bed each night and loving her as much as possible. She is a survivor and will rebound - She could use some visitors though I believe to help her remember that she is Roxie Gerl and not a chew toy. We have read everyones responses - both public and private ones - together. So many of you really covered the bases with perspective. We are so thankful for your comments about effects of Haze on the business, pet searches, family, liability, safety to humans, animals and Haze are right on and helped me understand a bigger picture. Kelly already had that. Right now we are isolating Haze from Roxie and Bella Gerl via a series of baby gates and property geography. She is leashed at all times inside and out. Her and Roxie have already licked each other in passing. No animosity - but Roxie definitely goes form fun gerl to on guard or stressed gerl around Haze. Haze is the same. We are not getting rid of Haze. We have plans to build outdoor dog runs and kennels for future canine recovery and boarding purposes. I am moving the timeline up on a small scale (cost prohibits the master plan right now) to accommodate Hazes living on her own within the confines of the doggie sanctuary. We are also going to fence the entire property at once (major cost) so the neighbors and Haze can be safe. If you like to pound T-Posts in the ground - come on out - I have over 500 of them to pound in and 4000 of fencing to run. She will still receive our love and attention - and I will begin working with her using some new techniques shared by several of you for aggressive/selective dog behavioral problems. I do a lot of work in the workshop and Haze enjoys hanging out with me there. We all know that dogs are ultimately unpredictable. Getting rid of Haze is not an option. She will not make it unless she is an only dog with an experienced dog handler. I would not allow any kind of transfer unless we knew the adopter has the facilities and knowledge to handle her. She is a wonderful love bug with peeps. She will be separated however as neither of us can trust her around any dog. Plus, the medical bills for this last event is at $400 - this brings our total human and canine medical treatment outlay to ~ 800 bucks. LOL We love our animals!. PLEASE NOTE HAZE IS A VERY FRIENDLY DOG WITH HUMANS. We both feel as relaxed with her as we do Roxie or Bella. WE BOTH KNEW HAZE HAD SOME ISSUES WITH DOG SELECTIVE AGGRESSIVENESS - just did not expect the severity of it all. We know understand better and are heeding Rays, Tammys and others advice on what to do. NO ONE IS TO BLAME for any of this. Haze lost her owner in a tragedy and she is struggling to understand her new world while having been shaped by the old one. TIME, PATIENCE and constant supervision on our part will give her a happy furrever life. We are lovers and have no issues of any kind with anyone over this - we love no drama relationships. These are my thoughts and may or may not reflect the opinions of the entire family. :)
