Okay. I am writing about “Practice Teaching” - a somewhat controversial idea, which has stirred up mixed emotions in the Yoga teacher community. In everyday teaching situations, many Yoga teachers appear a bit tired, a bit bored and lack in expressing their passion. Their appearance is often a bit stiff and uncomfortable, or blank and hurried. New teachers, freshly graduated, most commonly want to do a good job, but lack in confidence, may be quite insecure about themselves and nervous about their performance. Is it possible that you are one of those teachers? If yes, please read on. You may think that teaching just “happens” - we practice Yoga, we take a teacher training (where Yoga is explored in detail) and then, we just teach class. Things take their course, regardless of how you want to teach, or who you want to be as a teacher. Or as a new Yoga teacher, perhaps you would think that your teaching will not improve fast, until you have gained more extensive experience, more teaching hours. Yet, actually, there is a rather unexpected way out of the situation. I call it “Practice Teaching”. It works like this: imagine that you are a theater actor, who is passionate about performing on stage. You have received your role, the script, and you are getting ready to perform live in a stage play. You’d need to read and understand the script, rehearse the dialogues, “get into character”, create a way of expressing emotional content. Things like vocal tonality, body language, intelligence and making correct decisions will be important here. We can practice teaching a Yoga class in the same way. Before we go “live” (teaching a “real” Yoga class), we can prepare ourselves to teaching by performing a series of different exercises, which will improve our Yoga teacher’s communication skills and many, many other important qualities, which otherwise Yoga teachers take for granted… and don’t possess! Or perhaps improve over time, but very slowly! My “Practice Teaching” training explains how it is possible to control and improve your teaching dramatically, and fast. In my training you will understand what stands between who you are as a teacher now, and the magnificent Yoga teacher you want to be. Join me today, limited spots are available for one week in December, Phuket, Thailand.
