Okay, I gotta comment on this. Did these guys do something inappropriate? Yup, should they have kept it to theirselves? Yep, and definitely not videoed it. Does this happen in the Army? Yup, and the slang happens daily. I was Infantry, and yeah theres a sick sense of humor that needs ONLY to be reserved for your group and NOT put out there. Maybe its to deal with the stress of the high OPTEMPO, but them things are understood to stay in-house. Having said that, getting an ARCOM for snitching is incomprehensible. I dont get this. Army commendation Medal for tattle-telling? When I first joined, it was HARD to get a medal. We mostly received a Certificate of Appreciation if we did anything spectacular. Out of all of my medals, I only revere one, and that was for working out of my Infantry job and busting my tail-end, All the rest I felt like they are frivilous like this article (I got an ARCOM just for completing a required school). Maybe I just dont see something here. When we went to Itraq, I was the guy you never hear about... the ADMIN guy. I had to take care of Pay, Training, Schools, and yes, Awards. I kid you not, it was put out that everybody was to be put in for an award unless they had an Article 15 while in country. SMH, talk about degrading an award! Wow! Im telling you, we had Privates coming back from Iraq that looked like a South American General! We ALL looked like we could command a South american Army! An award whether it be an ARCOM, AAR, or whatever should stand alone on its own merit, and not handed out as a group award. From what I know and read in this article, this looks like a Rear Echelon pogue that probably needed promotion points. Look, plain and simple: Awards are for going above and beyond the call of duty, not for calling out inappropriate behavior. -END OF RANT-
