Okay I normally dont get serious on FB but with the Ray Rice thing and War Machine/Christy Mack a few weeks ago, theres been a lot of domestic violence related stuff on my newsfeed, and Im noticing a couple of disturbing trends in peoples viewpoints. So I wanted to say a few things. FIRST: If someone hits you (yeah, Im keeping this gender neutral), you have the right to defend yourself. But, and I will say this over and over again, SELF DEFENSE IS NOT A SYNONYM FOR RETALIATION. You are defending your physical safety, not your pride. Someone you love is angry and slaps you, restrain them from doing it again or walk away. There is no excusable reason to hit them back unless you believe it is the only way to keep yourself safe. So all this equal rights, equal fights shit can just get on somewhere. A relationship should not be a power struggle. SECOND: she deserved it for staying with him she had to know what was going to happen she should have just left nooooooooo. Leaving an abusive relationship is one of the hardest things a person can do. Also, the majority of homicides where the victim is killed by their abuser happen after the relationship has ended. So dont victim blame. Abuse is never ever ever the abuseds fault. THIRD AND LAST: I keep seeing people saying real men dont hit womenif he does this hes not a real man. Well what the hell is he then? A cyborg? Men who abuse are real men. Women who abuse are real women. Dont try to distance yourself like that from the shitty members of your own gender. Its just another way to pretend a huge societal issue has nothing to do with you. If youre a great person who has never abused anyone, awesome. But its not because youre a real man. Ill get off my soapbox now and return to your regularly scheduled programming of musical references and selfies.
