Okay, Im going to do the Russell Simmons thing and share some experiences, reflections and thoughts from my time as President of the Boston NAACP. Last night, the Boston NAACP successfully co-hosted our last Mayoral Debate and had over 600 attendees...super successful! However, an older black woman, likely in her late 50s approached one of our youth, who was asking for signatures to raise the minimum wage, and began to verbally attack him. She said she didnt believe in the NAACP because we disagreed with Councilor Charles Yancey on Redistricting and she stood around to urge others not to sign the petition or support the NAACP. I am still amazed at people who dont respect our right to disagree with an elder, who will disrespect a youth who was attempting to do community service, and who will undermine a good cause just to make a point about an issue they didnt even understand. I only highlight this experience because there are way too many people like this woman. We have to be better than that...
