Okay, Im wondering about the opinions of you guys. Is blue - TopicsExpress

Okay, Im wondering about the opinions of you guys. Is blue necessary in a design? Personally I dont think so unless you can make specific symbolism of it because the only reason the background of the current flag is blue is because its a British ensign. Also, I dont like to clutter things up with extra colours if I dont have to because of the simplicity principle of designing flags. I know that people argue that a design without blue will never be accepted, but how do you know? If the blues for monarchists, then dont bother, because most (if not all) monarchists dont want the flag to change. If its just so its not too radical of a change, then I say who cares?. I think that we as Australians should be happy with a flag that effectively symbolises us rather than a flag that looks similar to our old one. Is the federation star necessary? If not, what amount of points should the stars of the southern cross have? I dont have an opinion on this, so I just include it by default in my designs. Should we maintain the 1:2 ratio? Personally, I dont care. As long as the ratio is good for the design, then Im happy. I think the only reason Canada kept the 1:2 ratio is because it works better with their design. EDIT: Now that I think of it, is the Southern Cross necessary too? Personally I dont mind either way and understand that the symbol is quite important to a lot of, which is why I include it. I often also wonder if we should start from scratch and completely get rid of the Federation Star and Southern Cross and just make a distinctive design with the national colours. I cant come up with a design like that yet, but its an idea. Also, I know Ive posted these designs before, but I want to remind you guys that they exist and are possible alternatives to the current flag. In the first one, the shard represents the fact that we are notable for our beaches and deserts. Not many countries can brag about that. In the second one I went even simpler and just decided to make the federation star yellow (as it is in the coat of arms), so that the national colours are included even easier. So what do you guys think?
