Okay. Many discussions after watching Interstellar. So there was one part I seemed to have misunderstood about what exactly was being said about the black hole which led me to think that this part of the science was incorrect. But I misunderstood it (clarified by Ikjyot Singh Kohli, thank you). The relativity in this movie and the time dilation was PHENOMENALLY done (this was my original thought as well), and here, Ikjyot (who got his undergrad in honors from UofT and completed his PhD at York! YAY!) has put together a lovely article about the mathematics behind it and showing how it works (GR is something I havent learned in depth yet, just literally scraped the surface of it, so seeing it laid out was very nice), which has led me to grow an even bigger appreciation for the movie! The physics was advised by Kip Thorne, so this is expected =) Ikjyot clarified a lot of things in his article, things that many werent aware of, so its definitely worth a read (Phil Plait even commented on it)! I cant say much about the details without revealing anything (and you really shouldnt read this article unless youve seen the movie). Also, talking to my brother Dylan Ramsey has really shown me how much this movie will inspire people to become more aware of astrophysics and science, and grow an appreciation for it, and see how cool it actually is. =) So, it basically melds science and science fiction together in a wonderful way. Great movie! After reading Ikjyots post on it, Ill appreciate it so much more when I go watch it again with a bunch of high school physics teachers and their students, and profs from York on the 21st! =)
