Okay, Paul Ferguson challenged me to list/explain 15 Meaningful Movies in my life, and then tag 15 other people. 15 is such a low number, but Ill try. Im just going to do in chronological order. 1. The Godfather (1972) - This feel like a cop out, but I love it. 2. Taxi Driver (1976) - This is the film that made me fall in love with Martin Scorsese. The story is uncomfortable, and very unconventional. Robert DeNiro proved that he was a force to be reckoned with. 3. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) - This is still the funniest movie I have ever seen. I stole a lot of jokes from this, until all of friends finally saw it. I couldnt pass them off as my own anymore. 4. The Muppet Movie (1979) - I love the Muppets, and this movie is still the best they have produced. It helped shape my sense of humor. 5. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - The Star Wars franchise was a huge part of my life while growing up, and the second film is a marvel of storytelling. From its epic scope, to its beautiful twist, it proved that sequels dont always have to fall victim of sequelitis. 6. Moonwalker (1988) - I watched this movie every year when MTV would play it on Michael Jackson day. I loved it so much, that I dragged Leigh Ann Workman around Newport News one night because she told me she hadnt seen. 7. Batman (1989) - Not only was this my favorite film as a child, but it was the reason I became a film buff and an actor in my life. Jack Nicholson proved to me that villains can be more interesting than the hero. His performance is amazing! 8. Do the Right Thing (1989) - Spike Lee made the most important film about race, and race relations, which, unfortunately, is still relevant today. 9. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) - Speaking of interesting villains, Johnathan Demme put two of the best in his magnum opus. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins are on top of their games, and have beautiful chemistry. This movie IS perfect! 10. Jurassic Park (1993) - No list would be complete without at least one Spielberg film. Actually, this list could have turned into 15 Meaningful Spielberg films. HE IS AMAZING! I was 9, I loved dinosaurs, and this film is great. 11. The Lion King (1994) - I knew every line to this soundtrack, I knew every line to this movie. Disney made the best of their catalog, and I was just the right age to eat it up. 12. The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) Fargo was my first serious introduction to the Coen Brothers, this one is the most fun. The jokes are wall-to-wall, and Tim Robbins is absolutely wonderful. 13. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - And speaking of Tim Robbins! This is my favorite film of the 90s, and it makes me feel hopeful every time I watch it. 14. The Dark Knight (2008) - While the 89 film may be my personal favorite, this is the most well made superhero film to date, and my favorite film of the last decade. 15. Boyhood (2014) Just as I entered fatherhood, and I began to worry about the qualities I possess as somebodys dad, along came the movie that made me feel that it would all be okay. I cried like a child through the last 30 minutes without stopping.
