Okay. Redskins. As in the sporty name of a football team. I hate that term. It nauseates me. I have wanted Washington to come to the table about it for a looong time. Worse yet, I recently found my colonial settlers letter and he casually explains redskin was local slang for fresh and bloody Indian corpses and/or scalps, Hunting Indians was often a colonists source of income, something I was unaware of until recently. But they did not have red skins! White people do not have white skin...we have pink skin but we are not called Pinkos (except certain unfortunates of the 1950s.) Our indigenous people, who are our ancestors if you carry Indian blood in your veins, had weatherbeaten brown skin. But they BLED OUT RED like me, my black neighbors, my Asian relatives and you. The fact is that we all would correctly be called Red Skins once scalped during the colonization of this country. Below is a disappointing site I discovered while researching, which perpetuates even more mis-information (accepted in our tax-payer-funded schools) regarding American History . Im tempted to take Ms. Wolffs quiz to see what shes passing off. They are still selling the lie about MATOAKA POCAHONTAS REBECCA POWHATAN and that Smith guy. In the spirit of the Holday Season.. Bah Humbug.
