Okay, Uncle? There are, indeed, very few people who have heard of this character. He is the anti-hero protagonist of a crime fiction franchise made into a series of films featuring the infamous Fantomas. The reason most people around my age elsewhere may have missed this gem is because it was a French production, dubbed and screened in Iran in the late 1960s. This particular film was made in 1964. Today I saw a picture of a flying car to be marketed in 2015 and the memories of Fantomas in this scene came flying back: There is another layer of remembrance of things past draped around my memory of this film. We (Ahmad, I, and our best friend Kamran) saw the movie in our middle teen years. My younger brother Mohammad and his best friend Keyhan were around 7. We were thrilled by the movie and they were scared out of their wits (since, of course, we had taken them to see the movie!) For weeks and months afterwards, whenever we (the gang of three) wished to be alone and the kids (Mohammad and Keyhan) came knocking at the door with the impossible request of being included in our circle, we had a brand new weapon to ward them off. We would calmly respond: come in, please, we were just snacking on some Fantomas! They would run squealing with fear and we would giggle with delight. Sorry little brothers! And the rest of you out there, enjoy the vignette.
