Okay, a big pile of Facebook opprobrium about to descend in me, but..... I despise Children In Need. Not because of the cause per se - Im the father of an eight-year-old, for chrissakes, and more affected now by childrens suffering than I ever thought possible - but because of the nauseating hypocrisy and exploitation that surrounds it. Not only is it hosted by the BBC, whose hosting employees earn sickening amounts paid for by us. Not only is it true that those who are least likely to be able to afford it are most likely to contribute. Not only is it true that tax-dodging corporations exploit it for cheap - very cheap, in all senses - advertising. Not only is it true that the BBCs news arm has become a propaganda mouthpiece for the Tory/UKIP right wing agenda, which promotes the reduction of foreign aid. Not only is it true that the entire Children In Need coffer could be filled ten times over by the dodged tax of Starbucks alone. It is also cheap, nasty television that exploits the decency of good people.
