Okay after last weeks festival by the Cleveland Orchestra, I - TopicsExpress

Okay after last weeks festival by the Cleveland Orchestra, I really dont know what to say about the arts in this country ESPECIALLY when it comes to classical music. IF an organization like the Cleveland Orchestra can take on such a challenge of 6 symphonies of EXTREMES in 3 nights, then WHAT IS WRONG WITH Canada. Based on what I see of local orchestras here, there appears to be NO motivation to step outside the comfort zone and try something different. We HAVE the talent in this country, so what would be wrong with say the TSO or Montreal Symphony taking on such a challenge. I am also NOT letting up on the fact that these concerts are NOT BROADCAST any more, thanks to the dumbing down of a once great broadcaster CBC Radio 2. Why is it that the classical music organizations in this country feel they HAVE to price things out of reach of the average person who would LOVE to have their first experience in a great Canadian venue. Like I say, price events at HALF the current rate and you WILL have people coming in DROVES. The classical music industry in this country NEEDS to make itself MORE accessible to the person who WANTS to develop a love of a GREAT form of music. The current method of promotion of classical music is, to me, somewhat elitist. NOT to dumb it down, but make an accessible, yet intelligent way of promoting the venu The method of delivery of concerts MUST change too. With virtually NO REAL arts broadcasting in this country, organizations SHOULD record their concerts and make them available on their website either free or at a nominal fee. How many of us would LOVE to go but due to schedules or cost, miss out on great events. Just some thoughts on an industry I LOVE
