Okay, after some research it turns out this is a Giant Wood Wasp aka Horn Tail ...that is not a stinger, it is an ovipositor (for egg laying) and this scary beast cant/wont sting or bite you...it did however scare the buhjeezus out of me! Nicholas Haraszty found it in his garage whilst we were digging for some stuff...few neighbors in the alley were also freaked out by it and there was quite a bit of hub bub and even some broo ha ha as we watched Nick trap it for our viewing pleasure....Nick is brave.
