Okay all you 80s kids... Heres one that didnt make it into last years challenge. The band Qurarterflash was notable for having a lead singer, Rindy Ross, who also played saxophone. In a 1982 interview, Rindy Ross said that she viewed the saxophone as an extension of her voice, enabling her to express things she could not express with her voice alone. The group originally formed by merging two existing Oregon bands, Seafood Mama and Pilot. In 1980 the band performed while keeping the name Seafood Mama. They released the song Harden My Heart on a local private label which became a big hit on local Portland radio stations. In 1981 the band decided to change their name to Quarterflash & they re-released Harden My Heart as the first single from their debut album. In early 1982, it reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 & also hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Harden My Heart remains their biggest single to date. FYI...If you saw the movie Rock of Ages, Julianne Hough and Mary J. Blige sing this song. Also, the name Quarterflash...apparently the name came from an Australian slang description of new immigrants as one quarter flash and three parts foolish, which the Rosses (Rindy Ross & her husband Marv Ross, who are two of the bands original members) found in a book at producer John Boylans house.
