Okay....as my dear Mom (Mary Metzler) elluded to, there is much - TopicsExpress

Okay....as my dear Mom (Mary Metzler) elluded to, there is much more to the shrew story than what I shared last night. To start at the beginning, I was on the phone when I caught my first glimpse of wrangler releasing the shrew which then ran under my recliner. Being the calm individual I am, I began screaming into the phone, startling the person I was in deep conversation with. Not wanting that thing under the chair, I carefully tipped it to release it & set the dogs on it - it ran out and I began screaming into the phone again. It then ran under the large dog bed. Again, I released it. (Mind you this thing sounds more like a screeching bird than a mouse). You guessed it - the screaming began again. In now ran under the little dog bed and I retreated to standing on the dining room chair. The two younger dogs discovered a new dog toy at that point in time. If they jumped on the little dog bed it screeched. So envision this - two dogs jumping up and down on the dog bed (screechy toy) thoroughly enjoying themselves. From my vantage point, I now observed the escape of the shrew from under the little dog bed and watched it run under my couch. In the meantime, the dogs realized the dog bed didnt screech any longer and I SWEAR they looked at each other - accusing each other of breaking the new toy. Now what do I do - the shrew is under the couch and the dogs are more concerned about the broken dog bed that doesnt make noises. I jump off of my perch in the dining room and begin dragging the dogs to the shrew. (The musky-fool smell shrews give off are a deterrent to animals eating or attacking them.) No way was I going to tip the couch to let that thing out. BUT - a glimpse of it running around the floor lamp gave me hope and YES - I began screaming again and run back to my perch on the dining room chair. Oh yes, I am still on the phone during this time. The dogs begin harassing the shrew which then decides to take a beeline down the hall to the bedrooms. I, at that point, told my friend that I was sleeping on the dining room chair and there was no way I was going into my bedroom. About that time, I heard it screaming in Mikaylas bedroom and, as I shared last night, it was eventually caught by Wrangler the beagle. It had been hiding behind Mikaylas guitar and sound system - so I did the brave thing going into her bedroom, jumped on to her desk chair - transitioned over to the bed - and then stretched to pull the guitar up on the bed, followed by yes - a scream and running back to the chair for safety.
