Okay, back from celebrating the holiday with my family... and I - TopicsExpress

Okay, back from celebrating the holiday with my family... and I have to admit that Ronnie has stumped me with the Day 29 challenge of Round 4: an aria, duet, or chorus with a timeless political message that you endorse. I dont, generally speaking, listen to opera listening for political messages, so perhaps they have gone over my head. OR perhaps I have construed Ronnies use of the word political too narrowly as having to do with government or state policy, etc., because I cannot think of an opera excerpt that expresses a political message that I endorse. So, Im going a little afield (perhaps completely off the grid!) and give you an example of personal, moral behavior I endorse, which does not, by any means, imply that I get practice this behavior very often myself. I simply mean to say that I agree with it and endorse it, although I am willing to confess that I often do NOT follow it in my own life. This is Romeos turning the other cheek when Tybalt calls him a coward because Romeo refuses to fight him in the third act of Gounods Romeo et Juliette... and yes, we all know what will happen later after Tybalt has slain Mercutio, but for the moment, Romeo takes the high road. Since the YouTube posted here is of the whole opera, set the timer/cursor to 1:31:14... youll come in to Act III at the point where Romeo stops the fighting between Tybalt and Mercutio: https://youtube/watch?v=uCw-c74Lpjw
