Okay, done with politics - but I am puzzling over how it is that some movies - often really good ones - somehow seem to slip through the cracks - Key Largo is a fine example, a terrific film - Bogie, Bacall, Greenstreet, E.G. Robinson - all in fine form, a taut, literate script - but it never pops up on anybodys best lists. Another, that Im watching now, is The Pajama Game - surely the best movie musical Warner Bros. ever did - which isnt saying much, alas, they didnt do musicals well there - except this one. Doris Day at her perkiest, paired with John Raitt (yum) Eddie Foy Jr, and Carol Haney - the combination of Haney and Bob Fosses choreography is a wonder to behold (and whatever happened to her, btw?) And songs - how about, Steam Heat, Hernandos Hideaway, Hey There, Im not at all in Love, This is my Once a Year Day - not a turkey in the bunch - Okay, its silly, plot wise - arent most musicals - But the cast (lots of veterans youll recognize when you see them) keeps things moving along at such a frothy clip, you wont have time to begrudge a few inane threads. If you like old style movie musicals, I recommend this one heartily youtube/watch?v=Bzv4jOTuwjw
